The San Francisco 49’ers I was invited to train with and study the structure and coaching methods of the San Francisco 49’ers football team who won 4 Super Bowl Championships. It was an amazing experience and here are some of the photos taken during a home game at Candlestick Park San Francisco, which was also where the Beatles last performed in a concert before a live audience. Wearing a North Sydney jumper displaying our Bears emblem with a young San Francisco official wearing his 49’ers jumper.
Sideline with the players.
The most remarkable coach I have ever met is San Francisco's Bill Walsh, who took the Niners to an amazing three Super Bowl Championships. Bill is holding his headphones which are connected to 'spotters' placed at various vantage points around the ground and their job is to tell him where things might have gone wrong. He is also connected to a computer room where people are constantly punching in data from the game and advising him of the likely counter moves the opposition are likely to make, so he can prepare to counter their counter moves !!!
The most valuable player of the decade, the great Joe Montana.
Joe Montana practising his throwing while on the sideline, which is a procedure he went through time and time again.

Another shot of Joe practising during a game.

A “Niner” being treated for an ankle problem. The San Francisco team coming out of the locker rooms for the second half.
The big crowd watching a home game against the Atlanta Falcons. Note the retractable grandstand which folds under the main grandstand to make the field bigger for baseball matches.

Part of the massive media contingent on hand to capture all the action. ^ Back to Top ^
